In 2019, the Orleans County Historical Association voted to relocate this log cabin, constructed in the early 1930s by local Boy Scouts, to the site of the Association’s cobblestone schoolhouse in Gaines. The proposal was initially presented to the Cobblestone Society & Museum’s Buildings & Grounds Committee, who felt as though the organization had enough projects on its plate. 10 feet by 14 feet and six feet tall at its peak, the log cabin provided local Scouts with a place to camp out.
Rick Ebbs, the Association’s Second Treasurer, has offered to lead the relocation and restoration project. Once the necessary funds are raised to relocate the structure, plywood bracing will be constructed on the exterior and interior in order to move the cabin with a forklift. The overall project is estimated at $6,000.
To date, community members have contributed more than $1,000. Those interested in contributing to the project, either through monetary donations or in-kind services/materials, can contact the Orleans County Historical Association at P.O. Box 181, Albion, NY, 14411.
