Mt. Albion Chapel Project

Save Our Chapel Mt. Albion Help us save Mt. Albion’s Chapel!  As you pass under the sandstone arch and enter the main entrance to Mt. Albion Cemetery, your eyes are immediately drawn to the focal point – the chapel. Built in 1875 of locally-sourced Medina Sandstone, this historic structure stands as a sentinel to our community. For over a century, it has opened its doors to family funerals, memorial services, events, and programs.

Unfortunately, its 150-year-old Vermont slate roof has succumbed to the test of time. Due to the roof’s inevitable wear and leakage, the chapel is in disrepair and unusable.

The good news, however, is that the building is structurally sound, and with your help, it can be saved and reopened. Therefore, a plan has been developed to duplicate the original slate roof design and restore the building so it can once again be used for its intended purpose.

Mt. Albion Cemetery, with its rolling hills and picturesque landscape, is the jewel of our community. It is only the second cemetery to be named to the National Register of Historic Places; a notable national distinction.

We feel a great sense of pride knowing that this cemetery, and the lives and legacies it represents, are part of the fabric of our community. The chapel, in particular, stands as a reminder of this community’s past, present and future. To lose it would be devastating.

More project specifics on this important endeavor can be found in the pages of this flier. Likewise, committee members are happy to discuss additional chapel restoration information with any interested individuals, businesses, and community organizations.

All tax-deductible donations can be made to the Orleans County Historical Association, a 501(c)3 organization.

Please partner with us in this worthy endeavor to Save Our Chapel!
